TEHRAN

Welcome to Tehran!

Tehran is the capital of Iran with a population of around 8.7 million in the city and 15 million in the larger metropolitan area of Greater Tehran. It is the most populous city in Iran and Western Asia and has the second-largest metropolitan
area in the Middle East. In the Classical era, part of the territory of present-day Tehran was occupied by Rhages, a prominent Median city, which silk road passed from it.  In 1789, during Qajar era Agha Mohammad Khan chose Tehran as the Shah’s residence and capital. A small settlement of orchards and underground dwellings, close to the more famous city Rayy, had already been expanded to a city by the Safavid with a citadel, bazar and ramparts. In Tehran we can see different structure of buildings because of different climate from north to south of this city. You can visit the projects of some international star architects. No other country can offer such a high density of extraordinary architecture and urban ensembles on such a small surface area as the Tehran!
